Sarah Douglas and John Keeney were married in Oct 1661 in New London, New London Co., Connecticut.21 John Keeney22–23, son of William Keeney and Agnes [Annis] [Keeney], was born about 1641 in probably Cape Ann [Gloucester], Essex Co., Massachusetts.24–25 He died on 3 Feb 1715/6 at the age of 75 in Niantic, New London Co., Connecticut. 24 John Keeney was the son of William and Agnes. John was probably born at Cape Ann [later Gloucester], Massachusetts* and accompanied his family to New London in 1650. He became a freeman at New London in 1670. John married three times and fathered seven children; one daughter with his first wife and five daughters and a son with his second. He died on his 700 acres farm at Niantic in 1716.
The Keeney family was an occasional subject of Joshua Hempstead. On Tuesday, 27 December 1726, Hempstead noted the death of a daughter of John Keeney, 4 or 5 years old. [p. 178] On Tuesday, 13 December 1748, the diarist made the following entry, "old Mrs. Miner 2nd wife of Joseph Miner died aged [__]. She was Daughter of Mr. John Keeney by his first wife who was a Douglass, Sister to my uncle Robert Douglass and She was 1st wife of Ezekiel Turner from Scituate. She had a great number of children by him, I suppose a dozen and only one son and afterwards married to Miner about 30 years ago." [p. 510] Hempstead, on Tuesday, 25 September 1753, noted the passing of John Keeney, aged 54. He attended Keeney's funeral the next day. [p. 615] The two references to John were John, Jr.
*Although some sources give his birthplace as New London, John was more likely born in Plymouth or Massachusetts since his family didn't move to New London in 1650.

8. William Douglas Jr.2,6 (William-3, William-2, William-1) was born about 1 Apr 1645 in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.2,12,26 He died on 9 Mar 1724/5 at the age of 79 in New London, New London Co., Connecticut. 27 William Douglas was granted land on 14 October 1704 in and adjoining New London on the North. Lands were also set off for him in Voluntown 29 March 1706, which he sold to his son William of Plainfield. He inherited the 60 acre farm in New London from his father. He gave this farm to his grandson William [son of Richard] with the provision that William lived with and cared for the elder Douglas until his death.
William and Abiah Douglas were received into the First Church of New London in 1670. His three sons joined as well, William 24 July 1689, Richard 20 July 1705, and Samuel 6 March 1709.
William served with the Colonial Army in King Phillip's War at Narragansett in 1675. His wife, Abiah Hough, died on 21 February 1715. He remarried in July to Mary Bushnell.
The First Church records show that William Douglas, Jr. was a deacon in 1696, but implies that he held the office earlier.
He is buried in the town's Ancient Burial Ground. The marker, which stands next to that of son Richard, is tilted and difficult to read. The inscription is as follows: "Here lyeth ye Body of Deacon Wm. Douglas Who died March ye 9, 1724 in ye 80 years of his age.
