Allen/Allin Family Update

This one has been a challenge! Lots of Williams and two William Allen families in New England at the same time. I believe this is the correct lineage:

First Generation

1.  William Allen1 was born circa 1561 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 He died on 10 Aug 1637 at the age of 76 in Wales, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 Willam's father was probably William Allen [c1527 Brumby, Sheffied - 13 July 1616 Sheffield].
William Allen and Margaret Twigg were married on 1 Jul 1582 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 Margaret Twigg1, daughter of Thomas Twigg, was born circa 1563 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 She died on 11 Oct 1607 at the age of 44 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1

William Allen and Margaret Twigg had the following child:

2 i. William Allen, born Jan 1590, Wales, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom; married Rosa Storke, 11 Feb 1636, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom; died ca 1667, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.
William Allen and Anna Hoyle were married on 26 Jul 1608 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 Anna Hoyle1 was born (date unknown).

Second Generation

2.  William Allen1 (William-1) was born in Jan 1590 in Wales, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 He died circa 1667 at the age of 77 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 He was buried on 24 Jun 1667 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 Numerous genealogies confuse this William [1590-1667] and his son, William [1640-1685] with William Allen [c1602-1678/9] of Salem and his son William [bp. 31 May 1646]. These are two separate father/son combinations. The Great Migration Begins has a biographical sketch of the William Allen of Salem.

There is a strong possibility that William married twice and that Rosa was his second wife. Several sources suggest his first wife was Helena Horner. Birthdates for Helena range from 21 Jan 1575/6 to 4 Oct 1591. The marriage date is given as 12 October 1618 in Sheffield. If the 1591 birth is correct, then Helena is a viable candidate for the 1st Mrs. Allen. If the 1575/6 date is correct, then the match is extremely unlikely.
William Allen and Rosa Storke were married on 11 Feb 1636 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 Rosa Storke1, daughter of John / Johnis Storke, was born in Apr 1613 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 She was baptized on 11 Apr 1613 at Cathedral Church of St. Peter & St. Paul in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1 She died circa 1679 at the age of 66 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.1

William Allen and Rosa Storke had the following child:

3 i. William Allen, born Aug 1640, Wales, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom; married Elizabeth Hill, abt 1663, Prudence Island, Rhode Island, British America; died 2 Jun 1685–20 Jun 1685, West Barrington, Rhode Island, British America.

Third Generation

3.  William Allen25 (William-2, William-1) was born in Aug 1640 in Wales, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.34 [based on baptismal date] He was baptized on 19 Aug 1640 in Wales, Yorkshire, England.3 He died on 2 Jun 1685–20 Jun 1685 at the age of 44 in West Barrington, Rhode Island, British America.24 William Allen, or Allin, was baptized in Wales, Yorkshire, England on 19 August1640, the son of William Allen and Rosa Storke.

There is some speculation that he first went to Barbados, then to Newport, RI. Alllen rented a house from John Paine and eventually built a house near the Homestead Wharf in Portsmouth before moving on to Prudence Island. He and Paine remained close friends.

Allen settled on Prudence Island in the Narragansett Bay, where he established a large stock farm. William ran cattle and sheep, establishing Prudence Island's prosperous sheep industry. Cattle and sheep pens were built from remnants of stone walls left by the Indians. Allen's sheep herd reached 685.

In addition, Allen and his neighbors sold wool, flax, hemp. fruit, produce, grains [primarily corn and rye, for bread and feed] and some tobacco. Pear, plum, peach and apple orchards dotted the countryside.

William Allen was made a freeman in 1669. He served as constable for twelve years. Allen also served as surveyor of cattle for several years and was called upon to sign legal documents.

William married Elizabeth Hill about 1663
William purchased roughly 150 acres from the estate of Captain Willett in Swanzey [now West Barrington, RI] for £55. Allen's holding eventually reached 600 acres.

During Kong Philip's War, Tom, one of Allen's Indian servants, was taken prisoner by a Captain Gorman. Tom's wife followed in a canoe. She tried to free her husband and was also taken captive by Gorman's men. Once Allen realized that the couple was missing, he went to their wigwam and discovered the couple's year-old son. The servants were suspected of being spies for King Philip and never returned to Allen. William took the boy into his own family.

Allen's business dealings required frequent trips to the mainland, so he eventually decided to relocate his house at Potter's Cove to his property in Swanzey. During the winter of 1680, the bay froze over and the enterprising Allen had a large sled built. William and his Indian servants managed to raise the house onto the sled and guide it across the ice. Oxen pulled the sled to Allin's Cove and a quarter mile up and over a hill to its final destination.

William had the house enlarged the following summer using large stones. Barrington's first post office was established in the Allen home.

His will was dated 2 June 1685 and proved 29 June 1685 at Portsmouth, Rhode Island. William named his wife "that is now Elizabeth  Allin," eldest son William and daughter Mary Remington executors. William was to receive all lands in Potowomut and East Greenwich at age. 2nd son Thomas was given the house in Swanzey, with the stipulation that his mother continue to live there, as well as half the stock on the property to each of them. Sons John and Matthew were bequeathed a share of the land in Rehoboth and £20, at age. Daughters Mercy and Sarah were to receive £20 each and a feather bed each at age 18. Wife Elizabeth was left household goods and the care of a seven year old Indian boy.

William, Thomas and Matthew were all under 21 at the time of their father's death. Mercy and Sarah were under 18.
William Allen and Elizabeth Hill were married about 1663 in Prudence Island, Rhode Island, British America.2,6 Elizabeth Hill2 was born about 1642–1644 in Kent Co., Rhode Island, British America.2,6 She died after 1685 at the age of 43 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, British America.6 Death year of 1704 on undocumented trees.

Mary Allen and Thomas Remington were married about 1679 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island.34,7 Thomas Remington23, son of John Remington and Abigail Acie \ Acey, was born on 4 Feb 1655/6 in Andover, Essex Co., Massachusetts.3 He died between 20 May 1710 and 26 Sep 1710 at the age of 54 in Warwick, Kent Co., Rhode Island.8 He signed a will on 20 May 1710 in Rhode Island.8 Thomas had his estate probated on 26 Sep 1710 in Rhode Island.8 Thomas Remington bought Cowesett farm #1 in 1692/3. The farm consisted of 240 acres and was purchased from John Warner and Philip Sweet for £57. He was "of Prudence Island" when admitted as a freeman of Portsmouth on 28 March 1692 at the home of William Corey. He was chosen to serve on the "Jury of Tryals" on 22 August of that year. Thomas was deeded land by his father in 1695 and 1709. He became a freeman at Warwick in 1704. In his will dated 20 May 1710, Remington named his wife Mary, eight sons [six under 21] and two daughters [under 18]. He left his land to Thomas, Jr., William, and John. They were to pay legacies to their siblings.
