3. Timothy Baker Jr.3–4 (Timothy-2, Edward-1) was born on 8 Dec 1675 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, British America.3,5 He died in 1747 at the age of 72 in Prob. Maidenhead Twp., Hunterdon, New Jersey, British America. 3,5 Timothy was born in December 1675 to Timothy Baker Sr. and Grace Marsh in Northampton, Massachusetts Bay Colony. The elder Timothy was an ensign in the local militia and was off fighting in King Philip's War during his son's early years. Grace died when Timothy was two months old. Grandparents Edward and Joan Baker took on the responsibility of raising him until Timothy Senior remarried in 1678. He probably visited his maternal grandfather, John Marsh, in Hadley until he moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1687. In his will, Marsh bequeated Timothy five pounds, to be given him upon turning 21.
Timothy Baker, Jr. migrated from Massachusetts to Long Island, NY when he was about 21. The Bakers had been Congregationalists when they arrived in Massachusetts. At some point, possibly while in New York, Timothy became a member of the Presbyterian Church. He moved on to Maidenhead Twp., Burlington Co., NJ prior to 1703, when he married widow Susannah Matthews Smith.
Baker purchased land in Maidenhead Twp. in 1707. He served as constable for Maidenhead Twp. in 1709 and as a Justice of the Peace for Hunterdon Co. in 1719. Timothy also served as Surveyor of Highways, Overseer of the Poor and Overseer of Roads. He served on the township's first grand jury in 1719. Baker helped acquire land for the local Presbyterian Church and was listed as a Church Elder in 1733.
Timothy Baker's will was probated on 9 June 1747. He was survived by Susannah and their seven children.
Maidenhead Twp. was originally part of Burlinon Co., but became part of Hunterdon Co. in 1714. It would become Lawrence Twp. in 1816 and added to Mercer Co. in 1838.
The Bakers' seven children were: Samuel [1704 - 1802], Grace [b. c1706], Mary [b. c1707], Mathias [c1710 - Oct 1788], Thomas [b. c1715], Ruth [b. c1718] and Timothy III [c1720 - 1784].
Grace married a Coleman. Mary married David Howell. Mathias married Judith Wood. Timothy married a woman named Deborah.

Samuel Baker3 (Timothy-3, Timothy-2, Edward-1) was born in 1704 in Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, British America.3,5–6 He died on 15 Jul 1802 at the age of 98 in Kingwood Twp., Hunterdon Co., New Jersey. 3,5 Samuel Baker was Constable of Maidenhead Twp., NJ in 1749. The name of his wife has yet to be located in local records. The Bakers had six daughters: Susannah, Sophia [1740-1843], Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail and Rachel. Samuel was buried in Rosemont Cemetery in Kingwood Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ.
