Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.1 He died on 15 Oct 1701 at the
age of 55 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.1
Samuel Jennison was admitted as a freeman at Watertown, Massachusetts on 11
October 1682. He had considerable property, mostly in land holdings. Jennison
was referred to as "yeoman" or "Gentleman" in many deeds.
The title of "Ensign" was probably granted through British authority.
In the British army an ensign carried the flag.
Samuel was Watertown town clerk in November 1691, constable 1693-95, and in December 1694 was on a committee to audit the accounts of the constables from 1687 to date. He was chosen moderator of the yearly town meeting on 4 November 1692. Samuel was a selectman for 1691 and 1692. He was a tithing collector in March 1682/3, handled contributions for the ministry in 1691 and 1693. In July 1694, Samuel was deputized to assist a committee charged with the responsibility of filing an "information" in the Superior Court for Shubael Child. Child had been kept in the unheated town prison during the previous winter and his feet became frozen, causing him to be permanently crippled. Child had been imprisoned for a "temporary mental unbalance."
His will was dated 30 November 1700. In the will, Samuel named sons Samuel, William, Peter and Robert, as well as daughters Judith [Barnard], Rachel [Barron], Grace [Holden] and Lydia. [Mercy, 1671/2, at age two, and William's twin sister, Elizabeth died prior to 1700.] He also made bequests to his grandchildren, Mary Jennison, James and Samuel Barnard, Timothy Barron, John Holden and Joseph Bowman.

Ensign Samuel Jennison and Judith
Newcomb were married on 30 Oct 1666 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.1,14–15 Judith Newcomb1,12,14, daughter of Francis Newcomb and Rachel Brackett, was born
on 16 Jan 1645/6 in Braintree, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts.14–16 She died on 1 Mar 1723 at the
age of 77 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.1,14 There has been some confusion as to Judith's actual
maiden name. Howard Jennison wrote that it was Macomber and that her father was Zebedee Macomber.
Jennison noted other variations such as McComb and McCumber. He also linked the
Macombers to brothers John, William and Thomas of Devonshire, England.
Descendants for the latter could not be found. John's line was fairly well
documented; so William became the probable progenitor.
Howard Jennison also presented an item from the Holden Genealogy and other sources that Judith's maiden name was Newcomb. She was the daughter of Francis and Rachel Newcomb of Braintree, Massachusetts.
Francis Newcomb is well documented in several books and Massachusetts Vital Records. Judith Newcomb's birth is recorded in the Braintree births as 16 January 1645. [Various sources for the Jennisons give Judith Macomber's birth as 13 August 1674 or 1647 in Watertown.] The key was in locating a marriage record for Samuel and Judith on 10 October 1666, the date of their marriage in Watertown. Online searches failed.
Mary Walton Ferris' Dawes-Gates Ancestral Line [Vol. I] included chapters on both the Jennison and Newcomb families. Included in the Newcomb chapter [p. 461] was a photocopy of the original Watertown Vital Records for 1666. The third entry appears to read Samuell Jenisson & Judith Mucombe joyned in Marriage this 30 of October. There is an upstroke on the N that makes it look like an M. Thus the bride's maiden name is Nucombe in the record.
Ferris noted on p. 460 that Newcomb had "been erroneously identified as Macomber for at least 80 years." She noted Macombe was understandable, but the addition of the 'r' was a mystery. Also on the photocopy was the marriage entry for Judith's brother, Peter. The name was written as NuCom.
Since records for a Judith Macomber appear nonexistent, there is little doubt that the wife of Samuel Jennison was Judith Newcomb.
Judith was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1645. She married Samuel Jennison at Watertown in 1666. She died there in 1723.

Representative to the General Court 1731-32. He gave the land upon which the
first Worcester Court House was built in 1732.
William and Elizabeth were buried in the Old Burial Ground in Worcester. Excepting the Jennison marker, in 1853 all markers in the Old Burial Ground were buried a foot deep over their grave, and the Common was "smoothed over". All markers and inscriptions were carefully recorded before their burial.
The inscription on William's marker reads: "Here lies Buried ye Body of William Jenison Esqr; He was born at Watertown."

95 in Auburn, Worcester Co., Massachusetts.1
Robert Jennison was a resident of Watertown, Cambridge and Framingham before
moving to Prospect Hill in Auburn, Massachusetts with his son, Joseph. There he
bought a farm and built a house that stayed in the family until 1894. [The
house still stands, but has been converted into apartments.] Robert and Dorothy
Jennison were members of the church at Framingham. Jennison bought 55 acres
[with house and barn] in Framingham from Thompson Wood on 26 March 1722. He
sold it on 1 March 1726/7.
The Jennison Family History [p. 23] gives a sixth child for Robert and Dorothy, a daughter Dorothy. She was the 2nd wife of Daniel Wayman. A variety of internet sources give Dorothy "Jennison" a birth date of 10 January 1723/4 in Framingham. This date is only eight months earlier than the birth of Elias. A check of The Vital Records of Sudbury, Mass. to the year 1850 [p. 291 & 225] turned up a marriage between Daniel Wyman and Dorothy Johnson on 28 November 1747. Johnson and Jennison have been mixed up in other records, but with birth dates in play and no other Jennison sources mentioning a daughter Dorothy, it would appear Jennison is in error.

20. Peter Jennison5,27
(Joseph-5, Robert-4, Samuel-3, Robert-2, Robert-1) was born on 6 Jan 1749/50 in
Sutton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts.5 He died on 8 Dec 1816 at the
age of 66 in New Berlin, Chenango Co., New York.5
Peter was a native of Sutton, Massachusetts. He subscribed two pounds toward
the building of the Universalist meeting house in Oxford in 1770. Jennison was
a member of the congregation and a pew holder in the church.
Peter Jennison was a private in Captain John Growl's militia company, Col. Learned's regiment, which was among those who answered the Lexington alarm on 19 April 1775 to witness the "Shot Heard 'Round the World." His length of service was nine days.
He married Mehitable Singletary, herself from a patriotic family, in 1769. They had a dozen children between 1769 and 1793.
Peter was a relatively wealthy man for the times and owned a number of slaves. Upon her marriage, daughter Chloe was given $1000 and a Negro slave girl. When the family moved to New York, Chloe freed the girl, partly because her husband mistreated the girl.
The Jennisons moved to Chenango Co., NY before 1812. It was in February of that year that Mehitable died. According to family lore, she became temporarily insane from a serious illness and threw herself into a furnace, buring to death. Another version of the story was the Mehitable burned to death after her clothing caught fire from a furnace grate. Peter died in 1816.

xii. John
Jennison29 was born in Jun
1793 in Sutton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts.1,29–30
The Jennison Family History states that John "never married, went
west and died there." No state/territory is mentioned. Several IGI and
other online entries give a death year of 1853, coincidently the same year that
Rufus Jennison's son John died in Wisconsin. Some of those entries claim he
married a Martha McNabb. Unfortunately, none of these items are documented.
There is also a John S. Jenison who settled in Menard Co., Illinois.
