The Farringdon Family

The Farringdon Family:

First Generation

1.  Robert Farringdon was born circa 1445 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.1

Robert Farringdon and Joan de Hampton were married circa 1469 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.1 Joan de Hampton, daughter of Warren de Hampton, was born circa 1449 in Rockbeare, Devonshire, England.

Robert Farringdon and Joan de Hampton had the following child:

2              i.   John Farringdon, born ca 1470, Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England; married Elizabeth Wilford, ca 1494, Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England; died 7 Oct 1515, Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.

Second Generation

2.  John Farringdon (Robert-1) was born circa 1470 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.1 He died on 7 Oct 1515 at the age of 45 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.1

John Farringdon and Elizabeth Wilford were married circa 1494 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.1 Elizabeth Wilford, daughter of Robert Wilford, was born circa 1476 in Kenton, Devonshire, England.1

John Farringdon and Elizabeth Wilford had the following child:

3              i.   Charles Farringdon, born ca 1499, Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England; married Margery Stukeley, ca 1516, Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.

Third Generation

3.  Charles Farringdon2 (John-2, Robert-1) was born circa 1499 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.12 Charles was "15 years or older" at the time of his father's death in 1515, placing his birth sometime during the late 1490s. He was the second son and heir of John Farringdon.

Charles Farringdon and Margery Stukeley were married circa 1516 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.1 Margery Stukeley, daughter of Thomas Stukeley and Anne Wood / Wode, was born circa 1500 in Affeton, West Wolrington, Devonshire, England.1

Charles Farringdon and Margery Stukeley had the following child:

4              i.   Anne Farringdon, born ca 1522, Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England; married Thomas Dowrish IV, ca 1536, Dowrish, Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England.

Fourth Generation

4.  Anne Farringdon3 (Charles-3, John-2, Robert-1) was born circa 1522 in Farringdon, East Devon, Devonshire, England.4 As is the case with many others of royal lineage presented in this work, vitals are open to question. Anne's father, Charles, was "aged 15 years and more" at the time of his father's death in 1515. Estimates of Anne's birth have ranged from 1520-1530. Considering that her father was in his early twenties by 1520, a birth between 1520 and 1525 seems reasonable for Anne.
A marriage date is more difficult to determine. If the estimate of the birth of daughter Grace Dowrish [1538] is accurate, then Anne would have married Thomas Dowrish no later than 1536 when both were about 14.

Anne Farringdon and Thomas Dowrish IV were married circa 1536 in Dowrish, Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England.56 Thomas Dowrish IV56, son of Thomas Dowrish and Elizabeth Taverner, was born circa 1522 in Dowrish, Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England.5 He died in 1590 at the age of 68 in Dowrish, Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England.5 Vivian's The Visitations of the County of Devon [A-G] states that Thomas Dowrish was aged 30 years at his father's death [1552], thus placing his birth about 1521/2. He married Anne Farringdon and they had at least six children: Walter [eldest son and heir], Hugh, Robert, Elizabeth, Grace and Anne or Jane.
The Dowrish family resided at Dowrish house in Sandford Parish, Devon, where Thomas died in 1590.

Thomas Dowrish and Anne Farringdon had the following child:

5              i.   Grace Dowrish, born ca 1538, Dowrish, Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England; married Robert Gye, ca 1555, Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England; died ca 1580–1582, Higher Dodderidge [or Prowse], Sandford Parish, Devonshire, England.
