Jane's sister, Alice, married Sir Thomas de Brotherton, who transferred the manors of Metfield and Mendham to John. Two-thirds of the manors went to Jermy and one-third to Jane, as her dowry. Beginning in 1325, the Jermys would make their home at Metfield Hall, a moated manor house about a mile south of the village of Metfield. Sir John sold his property in Kessingland and Gisleham to the local Vicar in 13339.

He served under the Duke of Norfolk at Agincourt in 1415. John resided mainly at Metfield and Withersdale Manors. Jermy held numerous lands in Norfolk, as well as property in Suffolk. He was a Commissioner of the Peace. John held manors at Coddenham, Gosbeck, Vaux and Germyns [the latter at Little Wesham near Capele, which may have been Jermyn's Farm.]
