Fourth Generati
4. Bennet Belknap/Beltoft10–11 (Richard-3, Laurence-2, Richard-1) was born circa 1560 in
Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.12 He died on 21 May 1624 at the
age of 64 in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.13 He was buried on 21 May 1624 in
Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.13
Bennet was probably born between 1556 and 1559. He described himself as a
husbandman in his will of 14 April 1623 [proved 15 June 1624]. He was church
warden in 1610. Bennet married Grace Adam at Sawbridgeworth in 1586.
Bennet was sole executor of his father's will and was mentioned in the will of his brother Josias.
He died on 21 May 1624 at Sawbridgeworth.

Bennet Belknap/Beltoft and Grace
Adam were married on 25 May 1586 in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.13 Grace Adam14, daughter of Jerome
Adam and Elizabeth [Adam], was born in Nov 1561 in Sawbridgeworth,
Hertfordshire, England.15 She was baptized on 26 Nov 1561
in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.15 She died in Oct 1630 at the age
of 68 in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.13 Grace was buried on 29 Oct 1630
in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.13
Grace was willed a bed, anvil, barrel, brass pot, an old gown, a red petticoat
and her mother's best hat.
Elizabeth Adam's will seems to disprove that Peter Adam was Grace Adam Belknap's father. Peter, of Ware, named wife Elizabeth, sons Henry, Robert, Peter, Richard and John, and daughter Grace. The only common names in the wills of Peter Adam and Elizabeth Adam are John and Grace. Elizabeth's will specifies that Grace was married to Benet Beltoft.

1617.

daughter of Thomas Stallion [alias Butler] and Mary Dalton, was born on 24 Dec
1595 in St. Mary, Latton, Essex, England.23 She died before 1672 at the age
of 77 in Lynn, Essex Co., Massachusetts.24

following children:

Abraham was named in his grandfather's will. It is not know if he died young or
lived long enough to accompany the family to America.

Sixth Generation
6. Samuel Belknap/Beltoft30
(Abraham-5, Bennet-4, Richard-3, Laurence-2, Richard-1) was born on 16 Mar
1627/8 in North Weald, Essex, England.6,31 He died on 11 Nov 1701 at the
age of 73 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.6
Samuel was baptized 16 March 1627 in North Weald, Essex, England, parents
Abraham and Marie. [The name in the entry appears to be Immannuel, but there is
no record of Abraham having a son Immannuel.]
Samuel may have spent time in Easthampton, Long Island as one of that name owned land there on 5 July 1653. He was in Salem by August of that year when the eldest of the Belknap children was born.
Belknap had a house in Salem on land lying between the present Essex St. [near the corner of Beckford St.] and the North River. He sold land on 20 February 1665/6 to Edward Gaskyn. He was of Malden in 1671 and took the oath of allegiance at Haverhill on 28 November 1677. In 1696 Samuel conveyed land to sons Ebenezer and Abraham.
The aforementioned pedigree charts and IGIs give Samuel's death as 11 November 1701. The Belknap article says he was alive as late as 31 August 1731 according to one of the recorded deeds. If so, Belknap would have been about 103. It is possible, but would more likely be his son Samuel.

Samuel Belknap/Beltoft and Sarah
Jones were married circa 1652 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.6 Sarah Jones was born
on 28 Jan 1630/1 in Reading, Berkshire, England.6 She died on 18 Apr 1689 at the
age of 58 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.6
Samuel Belknap/Beltoft and Sarah Jones had the following
children:
7 ii. Sarah
Belknap/Beltoft, born 14 Oct 1656, North
Weald, Essex, England; married Nathaniel Singletary, 22 Dec 1673,
Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts; married John Page Jr., 21 May
1700, Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts; died 3 Jan 1756, Haverhill, Essex
Co., Massachusetts.
Seventh Generation
7. Sarah Belknap/Beltoft34–35 (Samuel-6, Abraham-5, Bennet-4, Richard-3, Laurence-2,
Richard-1) was born on 14 Oct 1656 in North Weald, Essex, England.6 She died on 3 Jan 1756 at the
age of 99 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.33
A recording error in the Salem births has caused some confusion concerning
Sarah and her elder sister Mary. Mary's birth is recorded as 17 August 1653.
There is a second birth entry for Mary on 14 October 1656, which coincides with
Sarah's birth date. No entries otherwise exist for the birth of Sarah in the
Salem records. The marriages for both girls appear in the Haverhill records.
Sarah survived her husband. Nathaniel's estate was administered on 25 March 1690 and was divided in November 1696. His widow, Sarah, was named administrator.* Presumably she was still living at the time of the division of the estate.

Sarah Belknap/Beltoft and
Nathaniel Singletary were married on 22 Dec 1673 in Haverhill, Essex Co.,
Massachusetts.34,36–37
Nathaniel Singletary36,38, son of Richard Singletary and Susanna Cooke, was born on
28 Oct 1644 in Salisbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts.36–37 He died killed by Indians on 13
Aug 1689 at the age of 44 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.34,36 Nathaniel was born in Salisbury,
Massachusetts in 1644. He moved with his parents and siblings to Haverhill
about 1652. Nathaniel was dismissed from training due to lameness in 1662. He
married Sarah Belknap in 1673.
On 13 August 1689, Nathaniel and his eldest son John were working their farm when Indians attacked them. Nathaniel was shot and killed instantly and scalped. John was taken captive and escaped later in the day.

Nathaniel Singletary and Sarah Belknap/Beltoft had the
following children:
8 i. John Singletary, born 7 May 1675, Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts; married Mary Greele/Greeley, 17
Dec 1700, Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts; married Mary Curtis, 15 Jul 1735,
Sutton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts; died aft 1747, Sutton, Worcester
Co., Massachusetts.
iii. Jonathan
Singletary was born on 18 Nov 1678 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.34
He died on 24 Nov 1678 at the age of 0 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.34
ix. Martha
Singletary34 was born on 20
Aug 1689 in Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.34
There is some question about the entry of Martha's birth. The Haverhill records
have the following: _______ ch. posthumous Nathaniel / Sarah [Belknap], "I
guess it to be" 20 August 1698 [dup. 12 August]. Perhaps the posthumous
reference was to Nathaniel who had died a week earlier.
Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury [p. 318] says Martha was born 20 August 1689 and was living in 1696. [Date father's estate divided among heirs.]
The Haverhill records show a marriage for a Martha Singeltery and Peter Green on 30 April 1713.

John Page Jr. was born (date unknown).
