A belated "Happy New Year" to blog readers!
Find My Past recently had a list of items to discuss with ancestors if time travel were possible.
Naming patterns [four generations of "John" in the Smith family], getting ages correct, leaving more detailed records, keeping the maiden name for females and leaving behind more family heirlooms were among the topics mentioned.
"Dream items" has frequently been a topic at genealogy conferences. The latest tech gizmo, book collection, record collection, etc. generally topped the list. I always hoped for a time machine. H.G. Wells' novel was always among my favorites, as was the 1960 movie version.
If time travel was possible, different ancestors would get different questions:
1) Catherine O'Neil Crail [gggm]: Can I copy your family records? [Mom and her brother recalled Catherine keeping a record of her family back in Ireland.]
2) James B. Crail Jr. & Mary A. Jones Crail [Catherine's in-laws]: Tell me about your parents and grandparents. Where were you born and where have you lived? [This is my "problem family!]
3) John McHugh & Sarah Hickey McHugh [gggp]: John, where in Co. Donegal were you from and who were your parents? Sarah, where in Pennsylvania were you from, who were your parents and where were they from?
4) John Faucett & Eve Fry Faucett [gggggp]: John, where were your people from? Would you tell me about being captured by Indians as a child? Eve, who were your people and where were they from? When & where did you and Jon marry?
5) John Wagner [Catherine Laubscher's husband]: Where was your home in Baden? When did you arrive in America? When did you and Catherine die?
This is just for starters!
