I came across an article printed in the Connecticut Nutmegger back in 2006, now online at AmericanAncestors.org: The English Origins of the First Thomas Benedict of Long Island and Norwalk, Connecticut by LaRue Olson. The article adds details to the lineage I already had for Thomas Benedict, clarifies a few points and adds parentage to Thomas' mother.
I am trying to condense Thomas' bio from a hodge-podge of a bio that I originally compiled for him. In the meantime, I will offer the new data on the Benedict family.
This will overlap with the Bridgum family, as Thomas' widowed mother married John Bridgum, who was the father of Thomas' wife, Mary. That made Thomas and Mary step-siblings.

Belknap Omission!!
It seems that I omitted a child on the list of Abraham and Mary [Stallion] Belknap's youngsters!
Hannah was the youngest child and was mentioned in her father's bio, but not on the family group sheet. Hannah was born about 1639 in Lynn [Essex] Massachusetts Bay. She married Christopher Osgood [c1638-1722/3] on 6 Dec1663 in Salem. The couple settled in Andover, where Hannah died on 21 Nov 1679.

Baynton family issues
A possible royal lineage may have some holes in it. Joan Baynton, ancestor of Mary Gye, is the individual in question.
Joan was the daughter of Henry Baynton of Faulstone, Bishopston, Wiltshire. Her grandparents were John Baynton and Joan Echingham, who was the daughter of William Echingham and Joan Arundel. Through the Arundel family, Joan Baynton was descended from King John [mistress Clemence].
However, there seems to be some disagreement on the Baynton ancestry. John, alledged father of Henry appears to be the pivotal person in the lineage. From various sources: A John Baynton has been inserted between Nicholas and Robert. Two generations of Johns have been placed between Nicholas and Robert. John is shown as the son of Robert. There is also some debate over Joan, the wife William Echingham [John's father-in-law], being an Arundel.

Arnold refused to travel to Newport, but agreed to go to Providence. William decided against Providence and opted for his son Stephen's home. William Arnold died there between mid-1675 and 3 Nov 1677, when Benedict Arnold described himself as eldest son and heir of William Arnold, deceased.

Joanna Arnold and Zachariah

1603 in Lancashire, England.15 He signed a will on 28 Apr 1662
in Pawtucket?, Providence Co., Rhode Island.21 He died drowned on 10 Apr 1666
at the age of 63 in Pawtucxet Shore, Pawtucxet, Providence Co., Rhode Island.22 Zachariah had his estate
probated on 29 May 1666 in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island.21 The story of the Rhodes family turns out to be a
fascinating one. Over several generations, the Rhodes family links to many
prominent Rhode Island families.
Zachariah, the immigrant, came to America at the same time as or shortly
after Roger Williams. He married Joanna Arnold, daughter of William Arnold and
sister of future Rhode Island governor Benedict Arnold [the ancestor of
Revolutionary War hero and traitor Benedict Arnold.] His son, John married
Waite Waterman, whose mother was Mercy Williams, daughter of the Rhode Island
founder. Other prominent Rhode Island families had marital ties to the
descendants of Zachariah: Holden, Greene, Gorton, Remington, and others.
Zachariah Rhodes may have been a brother to Henry Rhodes [1608-1675] of Lynn, Massachusetts. Both men were close in age and arrived in Massachusetts about the same time and there was a great similarity between their coats of arms.
Zachariah Rhodes was probably born in Lancashire, England in 1603. He landed at Plymouth and settled in Rehoboth, Massachusetts in 1643. That year his estate given as 50 lbs. in a list of 58 inhabitants of Rehoboth. On 30 June 1644 Zachariah drew a share of woodland. Rhodes and 29 others signed a compact: "We whose names are underwritten, being by the Providence of God, inhabitants of Seacunk, intending there to settle, do covenant and bind ourselves, one to another and e." The government was to rest in nine persons chosen from their inhabitants and it was agreed "to assist them according to our ability and estate, and to give timely notice unto them of any such things as in our conscience may prove dangerous unto the Plantation and this combination to continue until we shall subject ourselves jointly to some other government" on 8 July 1644. On 4 June 1645 he was propounded for as a freeman and on 9 June he drew a lot on the great plain.
That same year problems developed for Zachariah Rhodes and others who did not adhere to the strict Puritan doctrine. The commissioners of the United Colonies placed Rehoboth under the jurisdiction of Plymouth. Rhodes was an Independent [Baptist] and refused to comply with the law that called for citizens to contribute to the support of preaching. As a result, he was "compeled" to leave the colony and fled to Providence Plantation in 1646.
He would go on to become a prominent citizen in Rhode Island. In 1646 he married Joanna Arnold, daughter of William Arnold, who bore him eight children*.
On 18 February 1647, Rhodes drew a lot in the new meadow at Providence. He was on a commission sent by Massachusetts to ascertain the damage done to Pomham of Warwick and to demand redresses for him and company [21 August 1648]. On 2 September 1650, Zachariah Rhodes of Providence was taxed one pound.
Roger Williams, in a letter to the General Court of Massachusetts on 15 November 1655, wrote "a second, Zacharie Rhodes being in the way of dipping is [potentially] banished by you." ["Dipping" refers to the Baptist faith and "potentially" refers to Rhodes' violation of the law that obliged him to leave Massachusetts.]
In a deposition taken on 6 May 1657 Rhodes was called aged about 54. On 18 May 1658 he was admitted as a freeman. On 1 June 1658 Rhodes and others of Pawtuxet desired to be dismissed from the government of Massachusetts [under whose rule Pawtuxet had been since 1642.] The petition was granted the following October.
Zachariah Rhodes served in many civic capacities over the years. He was a Commissioner [1659-61-62-63], a constable [1660], served on committee concerning letter from Massachusetts authorities [1661], juryman [1661-63].served on committee to agree with the Indians on amount to be paid for confirmation of lands previously purchased in 1663, he was on committee to run the boundary between Rhode Island and Plymouth Colonies [1664], deputy [1664-65], and was town treasurer and a member of the town council in 1665.

Rhodes was present at the ceremony of "delivery of the lands by turf and twig to the Atherton Company" 22 September 1662. The ceremony was performed by Scutape, chief sachem of the Narragansetts, in the presence of a great concourse of Sachems, Councilors, and other Indians. [This event is credited son John. However, it would have to be Zachariah, unless the elder Rhodes took his four year old son to witness the ceremony.]

During the proceedings deputy to the court, Zachariah Rhodes, was brought before the court for saying, "The court has not to do in matters of religion." He was admonished and discharged from office by the governor.
Zachariah Rhodes drowned "off Pawtuxet Shore" on 10 April 1666. He and Joanna were buried at Pawtuxet in what became known as the Rhodes Burying Ground. There is no indication as to whether it was a swimming or sailing accident that took Zachariah's life.

Apparently, Mr. Reape was unable to adequately provide for Joanna, as she had to go to court to rectify the situation. 26 October 1681: On petition of Joanna Reape, wife of Samuel Reape, of Pawtuxet, the assembly "considering the deplorable estate of said Joanna, being left destitute by her second husband," and c., order that all estate of Samuel Reape be sequestered for the use of Joanna for her life, and appointed her son-in-law Daniel Williams and son John Rhodes feolees in trust to take possession in her behalf and receive rents for her use.
1 September 1687: Joanna Reape was taxed 7 shillings on 1 September 1687. Joanna's Rateable Estate for that year listed 2 acres of orchard, 6 acres of planting land, 20 acres of pasture, and 13 acres of meadow. She and son Pelig sold an eighth of a thirteenth right in land on the west side of the Pauchasset River to John Fowler on 11 February 1692/3. Joanna died later that year.

The first has a 1660 birth and the second a 1664 birth with a marriage to Thomas Nichols. For Robert [c 1664 -1715] and spouse Deliverance Smith. Benjamin likewise has two entries, with births of c 1660 and c 1670.
A printout from Kindred Konnections [citing the Gen. Dictionary of RI & The Gen. of Zachariah Rhodes] shows Mercy as a twin of Peleg and born in 1664, with husband Thomas Nichols; Robert [c 1666-1715] with wife Deliverance Smith; and Benjamin with a birth of c 1660.
The biggest problem with children born to Joanna as late as 1666 is that she would have been 49 years old. That is an extremely late age for a woman to be giving birth in the 17th century. She would have been 43 at the birth of Peleg in 1660. Even that late a birth is dangerous.
Zachariah Rhodes may have been a brother to Henry Rhodes [1608-1675] of Lynn, Massachusetts. Both men were close in age and arrived in Massachusetts about the same time and there was a great similarity between their coats of arms.
Zachariah Rhodes was probably born in Lancashire, England in 1603. He landed at Plymouth and settled in Rehoboth, Massachusetts in 1643. That year his estate given as 50 lbs. in a list of 58 inhabitants of Rehoboth. On 30 June 1644 Zachariah drew a share of woodland. Rhodes and 29 others signed a compact: "We whose names are underwritten, being by the Providence of God, inhabitants of Seacunk, intending there to settle, do covenant and bind ourselves, one to another and e." The government was to rest in nine persons chosen from their inhabitants and it was agreed "to assist them according to our ability and estate, and to give timely notice unto them of any such things as in our conscience may prove dangerous unto the Plantation and this combination to continue until we shall subject ourselves jointly to some other government" on 8 July 1644. On 4 June 1645 he was propounded for as a freeman and on 9 June he drew a lot on the great plain.
That same year problems developed for Zachariah Rhodes and others who did not adhere to the strict Puritan doctrine. The commissioners of the United Colonies placed Rehoboth under the jurisdiction of Plymouth. Rhodes was an Independent [Baptist] and refused to comply with the law that called for citizens to contribute to the support of preaching. As a result, he was "compeled" to leave the colony and fled to Providence Plantation in 1646.
He would go on to become a prominent citizen in Rhode Island. In 1646 he married Joanna Arnold, daughter of William Arnold, who bore him eight children*.
On 18 February 1647, Rhodes drew a lot in the new meadow at Providence. He was on a commission sent by Massachusetts to ascertain the damage done to Pomham of Warwick and to demand redresses for him and company [21 August 1648]. On 2 September 1650, Zachariah Rhodes of Providence was taxed one pound.
Roger Williams, in a letter to the General Court of Massachusetts on 15 November 1655, wrote "a second, Zacharie Rhodes being in the way of dipping is [potentially] banished by you." ["Dipping" refers to the Baptist faith and "potentially" refers to Rhodes' violation of the law that obliged him to leave Massachusetts.]
In a deposition taken on 6 May 1657 Rhodes was called aged about 54. On 18 May 1658 he was admitted as a freeman. On 1 June 1658 Rhodes and others of Pawtuxet desired to be dismissed from the government of Massachusetts [under whose rule Pawtuxet had been since 1642.] The petition was granted the following October.
Zachariah Rhodes served in many civic capacities over the years. He was a Commissioner [1659-61-62-63], a constable [1660], served on committee concerning letter from Massachusetts authorities [1661], juryman [1661-63].served on committee to agree with the Indians on amount to be paid for confirmation of lands previously purchased in 1663, he was on committee to run the boundary between Rhode Island and Plymouth Colonies [1664], deputy [1664-65], and was town treasurer and a member of the town council in 1665.

Arnold Family: Amended
First Generation
1. Nicholas Arnold1 was born about 1550
in Northover, Somerset, England.2–4 He signed a will on 18 Jan 1622
in Ilchester, Somerset, England.5 He died on 24 Jan 1622/3 at the
age of 73 in Ilchester, Somerset, England.6 Nicholas was buried on 26 Jan
1622/3 in Ilchester, Somerset, England.4 He had his estate probated on 28
Jul 1623 in Wells, Somerset, England.5
Early research on the Arnold family relied on several documents: [1] NEHGS
Register, Oct 1879, Vol. 33 [p. 427-433] Early Records of the Arnold Family
by Edwin Hubbard and the accompanying Genealogy of the Arnold Family by
Horatio Gates Somerby, [2] John Osborne Austin's Genealogical Dictionary of
Rhode Island, [3] LDS Ancestral Files and IGI records, [4] Fred A. Arnold's
Genealogies of Rhode Island Families.
Unfortunately, inexperience and a lack of knowledge of fraudulent genealogical research on the part of the author during the mid-1990s, led to compiling misinformation in the Arnold lineage. H.G. Somerby compiled numerous "creative genealogies" during his career. Utilizing the reliable sources and removing Somerby's Arnolds that were not documented elsewhere, led to the deletion of four generations and a possibly royal Welsh heritage for immigrant William Arnold. Deleted were (1) Roger Arnold and Joan Gamage, daughter of Sir Thomas, (2) Thomas Arnold and Agnes Warnsted, daughter of Richard, (3) Richard Arnold and Emmate Yong, daughter of Pearse, and (4) Richard Arnold and Jaquita.
The documented lineage of the Arnolds begins with Nicholas of Northover and Ilchester, Somerset, England. Fred A. Arnold's research uncovered proof the Nicholas Arnold was the father of William. However no records were discovered that identified Nicholas' parentage.
The following events concerning the Arnold family were recorded in the parish registers of Ilchester:

Witnesses were John Raven and Thomas Arnold. Nicholas' will was proved at Wells, 28 July 1623.
